September began as a continuation of the previous season’s success for Roma. The team won all five of their initial matches, with strong defensive performances allowing only one goal by the fourth match, which they still won against Parma (2-1). However, October brought challenges with two significant defeats. The first loss was to Juventus in a controversial match ending 3-2, with Bonucci scoring the decisive, offside goal. The second defeat was a crushing 7-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League at the Olimpico. This poor form continued with another loss to Bayern Munich and a defeat to Napoli, resulting in Roma's elimination from the Champions League with only five points from two draws and one win. Despite this, third place allowed them entry into the Europa League round of 32. In the Serie A, Roma rebounded in November and December with four wins and two draws, including their 1000th Serie A victory against Inter. Rudi Garcia’s side ended the first half of the season just behind Juventus. In both the Italian Cup and Europa League, Roma were eliminated by Fiorentina. Early 2015 saw a crisis in the league, with Roma, missing key players, managing only two wins and eight draws in an 11-match span, culminating in a home defeat to Sampdoria. When it seemed Lazio would overtake them, Roma revitalized in the spring. Key players regained form, and new signings Juan Manuel Iturbe, Víctor Ibarbo, and Seydou Doumbia integrated well into Garcia’s system. Roma secured wins against Cesena and Napoli after the Sampdoria loss. Although overtaken by Lazio on matchday 30, Roma quickly reclaimed their position. Despite defeats to both Milan teams, they secured crucial victories against Sassuolo, Genoa, and Udinese. The race for second place concluded with a 2-1 derby win over Lazio, ensuring Roma’s second-place finish and direct Champions League qualification.
