In the 1998 FIFA World Cup, Belgium competed in Group E alongside the Netherlands, Mexico, and South Korea. Despite remaining undefeated in the group stage, Belgium was eliminated after drawing all three matches. They started with a 0-0 draw against the Netherlands, followed by a 2-2 draw against Mexico, where Marc Wilmots scored twice. In their final match, Belgium needed a win against South Korea to advance but could only manage a 1-1 draw, sealing their early exit from the tournament.
