Beşiktaş entered the 2003‑04 season as defending Turkish champions under Mircea Lucescu, but despite a strong squad and high expectations, they were unable to repeat their title success. The team finished 3rd in the Süper Lig, behind Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor, showing solid attacking output but lacking the consistency needed for a sustained title challenge. In Europe, Beşiktaş competed in the UEFA Champions League group stage, finishing third and dropping into the UEFA Cup, where they were eliminated by eventual winners Valencia.
