This model originated from a collaboration with the German Uhlsport between 1988 and 1991. Inter was considered a top contender for the Serie A title, boasting three world champions in their squad among others. Despite being well-positioned in the league, the team also advanced to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup after impressive comebacks against Rapid Wien and Aston Villa. Under Trapattoni's guidance, Inter progressed to the final, defeating Atalanta and Sporting Lisboa along the way. Although hopes for the Scudetto faded due to losses against Genoa sides in May, Inter salvaged the season by clinching the UEFA Cup. The victory came against another Italian side, Roma, with a 2–1 aggregate score.
