After clinching the FA Cup in the prior season, Liverpool secured qualification for the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. The 1992–93 season saw the addition of new players to the squad, including goalkeeper David James, Hungarian midfielder István Kozma, Danish defender Torben Piechnik, and attacking midfielder Paul Stewart. As founding members of the new FA Premier League, Liverpool finished in sixth place, mirroring their performance from the previous season. However, their inability to make an impact in cup competitions resulted in a trophyless season and the absence of European football for the 1993–94 season.
