The 1994–95 season was marred by both high-profile transfers and controversy. United brought in David May and shattered transfer records by signing Andy Cole in January. However, Eric Cantona’s shocking altercation with a Crystal Palace fan dominated headlines, earning him an eight-month suspension. Despite staying in contention for the Premier League title until the final day—when Blackburn stumbled—United could only draw against West Ham, missing out. Their season ended without silverware following a 1–0 defeat to Everton in the FA Cup final.

In contrast, the 1995–96 campaign was a story of redemption and resilience. Starting without major signings and facing early criticism, United bounced back with a strong run, fueled by Cantona’s dramatic return. A pivotal win over Newcastle in December cut a ten-point gap, and by spring, United took the lead and never looked back. They clinched the Premier League title with a 3–0 win over Middlesbrough, and sealed a historic double by edging Liverpool in the FA Cup final. Despite departures and offbeat moments like the infamous kit-change incident, the season marked the resurgence of Ferguson’s side.
