Manchester United’s 2014–15 season was a season of recovery and rebuilding under Louis van Gaal following the disappointment of the previous year. After a slow start and heavy summer investment that brought in players such as Ángel Di María, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, and later Radamel Falcao, United gradually improved and secured a return to the Champions League by finishing 4th in the Premier League. The team produced memorable victories over Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal, with a spring run of six consecutive league wins briefly raising hopes of a title challenge. While cup competitions ended disappointingly, the emergence of David de Gea as arguably the league’s best goalkeeper and the development of young talents helped restore optimism at Old Trafford.
