In the 1991–92 season, Tottenham Hotspur finished 15th in the First Division, struggling with inconsistency throughout the campaign. Despite their league difficulties, they reached the semi-finals of the League Cup and the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, where they were eliminated by Feyenoord. This season also marked the departure of Gary Lineker, who confirmed in November that he would leave for Japan at the end of the season. His 28 league goals made him the club’s top scorer, and he was voted Football Writers' Footballer of the Year. In the 1992–93 season, Tottenham Hotspur finished 8th in the inaugural Premier League, marking their 15th consecutive season in the top flight. Managed by Doug Livermore and Ray Clemence, Spurs had a solid campaign, reaching the FA Cup semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Arsenal (1-0). In the League Cup, they exited in the fourth round.
